Jairam
In the Wambule Rai language, the area where the “Jairam” (firfire) tree is found. A region along the Dudhkoshi River, which originates from Gokyo Lake in the Himalayas, the abode of Lord Mahadev (Shiva). A sacred water collection site for offerings to Halesi Mahadev and Khokchilipa.
Bojhe Cave
Once a habitat of the wild boar (Bose), the area came to be known as ‘Bojhe cave.’
When the demon Bhasmasur was chasing Lord Mahadev (Shiva), he escaped through the Bojhe cave and emerged at Halesi Cave. This cavern is also the dwelling of the revered python (Rungzhi/Ajhingar), worshipped by the Kirat Rai people.
Halesi Gadhi
Halesi Fort was ruled by the descendants of King Holaisung, ancestors of the Kirat Chamling Rai people. This area holds great significance, featuring landmarks like Ravachung Hill, Ravapani, Ravabu River, weapon forging sites, and battlefields. From here, one can also enjoy breathtaking views of the Himalayan mountain range.
Bungalung
A scenic site adorned with captivating rock formations. According to Kirat Rai mythology, this is where their primordial ancestors Tayama and Khiyama transformed into birds and perched after descending from Tuvachung Peak. A breathtaking viewpoint offering majestic vistas of the Himalayas.
Halesi cave
A sacred pilgrimage site shared by Kirant, Hindu, and Buddhist devotees.
This spiritual sanctuary features: The natural wonder of Halesi Mahadev Cave; Maratika Monastery (renowned for longevity blessings); The mystical Basaha Cave (Khokchilipa cave); Manjushri’s Enlightenment Cave.
Kamahui
The Ancestral Stone Khamahui. This sacred stone monument symbolizes our forefathers. It marks the spot where Tayama and Khiyama transformed into birds and alighted. Sacred Rituals: Circumambulate clockwise for blessings; Believed to fulfill wishes and bring good fortune (Subbe-Phabbe); A traditional site for offerings before embarking on journeys.
Tuwachung
The sacred textile civilization site where the ancestral Kirat Rai sisters – elder Tayama and younger Khiyama – first wove fabric. Stone formations here are believed to be their ancient weaving looms. At Tuvachung, the mesmerizing ‘Pelelema’ cultural stone wall stands as a testament to their legacy. A captivating viewpoint offering panoramic vistas of the Himalayan range.
Chichinga
Chichinga: The ancestral village of Khokchilipa, the primordial Kirat Rai forefather. This sacred land witnessed his marriage to the Naga princess Wailungma, where they established their home. The site bears mystical wonders: The life-giving water source summoned through Mundum spiritual power; A miraculous mango tree yielding four to five varieties of fruit; The sacred memorial ground (Remmakhim). The region also features sacred cultural sites, including the Bapachung (भालेडाँडा), Soloma cliff.
Gupteswor Cave (
Hidden deep in the solitary wilderness lies the Gupteshwar Cave, also known as Dukhsili Cave. This sacred site is primarily visited by Buddhist devotees for spiritual pilgrimage.
Talilung
These stones at Khamtel Fort served as targets for the bows of Kirat (Chamling Rai) warriors. Their legacy transformed when a grieving mother, suffering from postpartum anguish, miraculously lifted one – and upon demonstrating this strength, was blessed with children. Now known as “Sutkeri Stones”.
